Wedding horror stories

When Eric and I started preparing for the wedding, one of the things we agreed upon was that we wouldn't be obsessed (or even expect) to have the "perfect" wedding. We would try to keep things simple and enjoyable and if something bad happens... well, that's why we have the coordinator, right?

But of course, we're still taking steps to minimize the risk of the "usual" wedding snafus—like the gowns not being ready in time, members of the entourage getting sick the day before the wedding, members of the entourage being late for the ceremony, guests not RSVP-ing and arriving by the (unconfirmed) dozens, etc. etc.

But just when we think we can have "expected disasters" under control, along come incidents like these:

1) This happened to the child of a friend of a friend of my dad's. The bride and groom found out a few weeks before the wedding that their church (Santuario de San Jose) DID NOT HAVE A RED CARPET for the wedding party to walk on. It seems the carpet was already worn and in tatters, so the church had it taken out. The bride and groom had no choice but to buy a new carpet and "donate" it to the church.

2) This happened to Anna Dy's wedding... during the recessional, one of her coordinators TRIPPED OVER one of the flower stands along the aisle.... and just like a set of dominos, THE FLOWERS TOPPLED OVER EACH OTHER and CRASHED ONTO THE FLOOR. For Anna, the only consolation was that it was already the end of the ceremony and many of the guests were already outside. But she still wanted to kick the coordinator.

These stories make for a good laugh when I first hear about them, but they're still a reminder that no matter how much I plan, anything can happen. Hay, bahala na.
