A married friend of mine confided in me recently that she can’t get her husband to change his ways because “he knows that no matter what he does, he will always still have me in the end.”
I couldn’t forget what she said for the rest of the day, and even days after. I think that’s such a sad situation to be in, being stuck with putting up with something (or, in this case, someone) that’s clearly giving so much problems. I’m all for “for better or worse,” but I really think everyone, even a married person, should have some non-negotiables in life, especially where his or her happiness is concerned. A marriage shouldn’t be a life sentence.
