I haven't been around kids in a long time, so I don't know if what just happened yesterday is normal... or if I'm being overly old-fashioned...
See, we took Justin to a friend's house yesterday afternoon, and there were other kids there, with ages ranging from 1.2 years old to around 4 years old.
Justin's godparents were there, and sweet spoilers that they are, they had a no-occasion present for Justin. But just when his ninang brought the stuffed pic out, this kid suddenly comes up from (I swear) out of nowhere and gets the toy from her.
To be fair, he didn't snatch it... but he stretched his arm up, got it, and left. It was like he had a homing beacon that alerted him to "Oh!!! New toy!!!" and he zoomed right over. Oh-kayyy.... No harm done. This kid was probably 2 or 3 years old.
So anyway, later on, we finally got Justin settled down on the sofa, and we brought out his own toys for him to play with. Again, all of sudden, another kid comes over, and without saying anything takes one of the toys -- and puts it in his mouth! (It was a small plastic cube, so very bite-able.)
To be fair, he gave Justin the little plastic basketball he was holding. Like it's sharing. But really, did he have to put it in his mouth?
And yes, as Eric kept telling me, the kid was just 1.2 years old, it's not as if he could've asked permission to borrow the toy. But where was the mom? Or the yaya? And did he have to put the damn cube into his mouth??
Anyway, we got both toys back at the end of the day... but still...
So is this how kids are these days? I mean, they just take things without even asking permission first? Or without even showing some hesitancy/shyness first? Or is this how "sharing" is done now?
I'm not upset...not really....just baffled...

Like what I told you before, they're just kids. They don't know what they're doing. It could be just there instinct to do it since it's a toy. Ok lang yan. The parents might not even know that their kids are doing that.

that's a common occurence. part of growing up and learning social interaction. it's good that the 2nd kid practices bartering. others tend to hoard and not share. as for "mouthing" the cube, the kid is just curious... many are like that. part of learning. my niece though, didn't pick up that habit. TG!
While it is normal behavior (kids will put everything in their mouths and want to grab dangling items) it is not supposed to be encouraged, especially if the items in question aren't theirs. Unfortunately their parents and yayas can't be around them all the time to tell them that, but again, it's normal, but should be discouraged in public.
i think kids put anything and everything in their mouths! diba? wait until they start school... paste, crayons, pencils, erasers... hehehehe!
